Guided canoe paddle on Oxtongue Lake toward Ragged Falls
What it's like

You bring the smiles. We'll handle the rest.

You don't need to know a J-stroke from a sweep — your guides from Algonquin Outfitters do, and that's the whole point. You'll push off right from their base on Oxtongue Lake into calm, sheltered water, in a small, social group of ten paddlers across five canoes.

There's no whitewater and no portaging — just flat, glassy water, the dip and pull of your paddle, and a guide setting an easy pace toward the rush of Ragged Falls. Loons surface beside you, the shoreline drifts past, and the city feels very far away.

A real Algonquin paddle, with all the hard parts taken care of.

How the day unfolds

One easy day, start to finish — here's how it goes once you're off the bus.

1

Meet your guides at Oxtongue Lake

Step off the bus at the Algonquin Outfitters base. Your guides fit your PFD, hand you a paddle, and walk you through the basics — how to hold it, steer, and work as a pair. Five minutes and you're ready.

2

Push off in a small group

Ten paddlers, five canoes, one guide leading the way. Share a canoe with a friend or get paired up — either way you're never far from the group, and never lost.

3

Paddle toward Ragged Falls

Glassy, sheltered water the whole way. Your guide points out wildlife and reads the route while you settle into the rhythm. Keep an eye out for loons, herons, and turtles sunning on logs.

4

Reach the falls & break for lunch

Pull up near Ragged Falls, stretch your legs, and watch the water thunder over the rock. It's the turnaround point and the perfect spot for your packed lunch and a few photos.

5

Paddle back & ride home

An easy paddle back to the base, then back on the coach. Nap the ride home to Toronto — you've earned it. You'll be back in the city the same evening.

Is this trip for you?

Used this service for a weekend in Algonquin. These guys stuck to the schedule well and ambassadors checked everyone in at their pickups. Convenient drop offs all across the park and across the city. Reasonably priced and no need to think about a rental car to get to the wilderness.
