No car needed

Three stops, your pick

The bus serves the Visitor Centre, Jakes Landing and Merrymakedge. Hike, paddle, swim, or all three.

Friendly faces aboard

Your Hike Nova Scotia ambassadors ride along to answer questions and point you in the right direction.

What's waiting for you

A national park and a national historic site, in one

Kejimkujik — Keji for short — protects 404 km² of Acadian forest, quiet lakes and ancient Mi'kmaw cultural sites. Old-growth hemlock, sugar maple and yellow birch border warm-water lakes with quartzite shores. It's the only inland national park in the Maritimes, and the only place in the country that's both a National Park and a National Historic Site.

Paddle the historic canoe routes on Kejimkujik Lake and the Mersey River, where you might spot turtles, beavers and loons. After dark it becomes Nova Scotia's only Dark-Sky Preserve — some of the best stargazing in the province, free of light pollution.

One ticket. A whole national park to wander.

Review of this trip
★★★★★
“We took Parkbus’ first trip from Halifax to Keji and what a great experience it was! The amount of time we were given in the park was perfect for a day trip, we did some canoeing, hiking, and our toddler had a great time on the playground. The bus was on time and all staff involved were pleasant and friendly! What a nice way to get out of the city and to one of Nova Scotia’s gems!”

FAQ: before you go

How much does it cost?
It's $45 round trip for adults and $32 for children 12 and under. There's no separate student or senior fare. Thanks to support from VIA Rail and TD, it's still one of the best-value days out in Nova Scotia.
Is this a guided trip?
It's self-guided transportation. We drive you to the park and back, with Hike Nova Scotia ambassadors aboard to help with questions and suggestions. Inside the park you explore at your own pace. (Parks Canada's petroglyph tours are booked separately — see above.)
Where does the bus leave from?
The VIA Rail Station in downtown Halifax (1161 Hollis Street). The bus departs at 7:30 AM and returns at approximately 7:15 PM.
How long is the drive?
About 2.5 hours each way from Halifax. You'll have roughly six hours in the park — enough to hike, paddle, swim, or mix all three.
Can I rent a canoe or bike there?
Yes — Whynot Adventure at Jakes Landing rents canoes, kayaks, paddleboards and bikes. Gear sells out on busy days, so reserve in advance at whynotadventure.ca.
Which stop should I choose?
The Visitor Centre is best for Mill Falls and shorter forest trails; Jakes Landing for paddling and longer river trails; Merrymakedge for the beach, swimming, the café, and Mi'kmaw cultural sites. You can also walk the Ukme'k Trail between them — just watch the time for pickup.
Is it good for families and first-timers?
Very. There are gentle trails, a swimming beach, a playground near Merrymakedge, a café, and washrooms at every stop. It's an easy, low-stress way to spend a day in a national park — no car required.
What if it rains?
The trip runs rain or shine — pack a rain jacket and you'll be fine. We only cancel in extreme conditions, and we'll let you know in advance. Full refund if you cancel 14+ days before departure.
